First December post.
Gosh, so busy again nowadays. Went back to UM on the 3rd to start training for festival seni.
Joined creative and Chinese dance.
For creative, we're doing a combination of randai, silat and tarian piring.
yes, tarian piring
i, the one that drops my phone at least twice a day, am going to dance with plates.
The original plate dancers from west sumatra use ceramic or glass plates, but after watching us practice, Cik Yusof decided to let us use plastic plates instead. Actually, glass plates are better cause the weight, gravity and momentum will stick the plate to your palm. But the knowing that you are holding something breakable in your hands and the fact that you have to dance on shards of glass if an accident occurs does wonders to your nerves. Makes sense?
Unfortunately, there aren't enough male dancers(or actually, male dancers that act and dance like males), so two other girls and i are learning the guys routine. Which is good in the way that the moves are bigger and more challenging, but bad in a way that my muscles are developing like a man's. And bruises everywhere.
Oh, and i think it's weird that Malay men don't like to be called 'Encik'. They prefer a short form of 'Cik' cause kononnye it's more friendly. Er, doesn't 'Cik' mean 'Miss'? The first time i encountered this was when Encik Affendi from the Perak cultural centre asked us to call him 'Cik Fendi'. At that time i thought it was because he was gay. Seriously, 'Cik'?!
As for Chinese dance, we're using fans, umbrellas and 'cai dai'.
The cai dai is not the typical ribbon one like rhythmic gymnastics, but a really long, thick, satiny kind of cloth on a stick that weighs a ton. 3 of us will be using it and until now, i still look stupid when i use it. hope i don't embarrass myself during the college preview!
The Chinese dance is only 5 mins long, but it's so detailed. Kind of like tarian asli, cause you have to pose just right and have your hands and fingers at a specific height etc. For now the creative dance instructor is just teaching us the basics. We haven't started on the entrance, formations, 'chuan cha' and worst off all, polishing up. Argh, i hate hate hate polishing up.
Then there's i-dance.
The rules state that minimum 3 per team, and for months, Michelle and i couldn't find a third dancer. Two days ago we were desperate and recruited one of our friends from Chinese dance. Malangnye things didn't work out as we need someone who can pick up the routine fast without me having to teach minor things like body isolation's and stuff. So in desperation we called a Malay guy who's dance major. I think he will catch the routine quickly, but the 1st part is belly dance! It's gonna be a strange sight. And die die die the comp is on the 6th of Jan and i haven't finished the choreography yet.
As for my results, i got and A for a subject where its really hard to score and A- for a sub that is ridiculously easy to score. Math. Damn it %@#$&!! GPA is 3.84 for the moment. Registered for 17 credit hours this coming sem. Don't know if it's a good or bad decision.
Won't be coming back for Christmas this year. Maybe not even new year. So i wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance!
All the best for year 2008.
